THE People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) General Secretary, Clement Rohee, is calling on citizens to fully support the security forces in the lead-up to the Guyana Independence anniversary, which will climax on May 26.At his weekly press briefing at Freedom House on Monday, Rohee said, “The PPP will be keeping a close watch on the performance of the tail-end of Operation Dragnet during the Independence celebrations.”
Government has been criticised for the number of serious and brazen crimes committed in the past few months, even though more suspects are being apprehended now than at any previous time.
The PPP/C has called on citizens to be vigilant on all fronts, and to lend as much support as possible to law enforcement officers as well as the community and neighbourhood policing groups.
Rohee, a former security minister, said that so far all Members of Parliament have received personal invitations to participate in several state functions designed to celebrate the momentous occasion; and the PPP/C Members of Parliament will participate in these events on an optional basis.
“We are mindful of the dire socio-economic circumstances obtaining in the country at this time, as the nation prepares to celebrate this historic event and to welcome Guyanese who will be returning home for the event,” Rohee said.
