Jackie Jaxx… Still on top!

JUST last week, local artiste ‘Jackie Jaxx’ got major attention for her song, ‘Guyana’. But the hype hasn’t stopped there. With her song, ‘Money’ recently having been featured on the VH1 reality show, ‘Love and Hip Hop Atlanta’, Jackie is on fire, and is set to make Guyana proud on an international level very soon.
Since her music was featured on the show, Jackie’s phone has been blowing up with requests from several record labels who’ve expressed their desire to work with her.
Other invitations from across the globe have also flown her way, including from a Germany-based EDM group looking to do more remixes like ‘Money’ with Jackie’s dancehall sound.
It seems as though this local artiste has found herself part of a new niche: EDM/Dancehall, and she’s excited to be the first Guyanese whose music will go to these heights.
‘Money’ was also the first song by a Guyanese artiste to be featured on US Primetime television, and Jackie is super excited to be the one who did it.
“The thing is, it was kind of a surprise for Guyanese when the song was featured, because I didn’t say anything,” Jackie said, adding that because of dealing with the loss of her cousin, who was very close to her, she failed to do any promotion for the song, even though she knew it would be on the show.
“But I think the surprise worked in my favour,” Jackie said, “because so many people started hitting me up to say they heard it, and they were really excited.”
Jackie made the connection with US producers Dave Winnel and Judge of the EDM Label, Armada Musi,c through her publisher, Julian Jones.
Winnel’s and Judge’s remixed version of ‘Money’ has since been getting much traction in the US and on the Internet following its appearance on Love and Hip Hop Atlanta.
Now, with access to a whole new market, Jackie intends to take advantage of this attention to catapult her music career to where she wants to be, so that she can make Guyana proud.
After the Golden Jubilee, Jackie will travel to the US to develop her career, and create partnerships that will make her music reach the heights to which she aspires.
“I was waiting on the right time. I believe everything happens at the right time,” Jackie said. “This opportunity came on the heels of Guyana Song.
“Last year, I didn’t think I had enough material or buzz to make an impact. But now is the right time to capitalise.”
Jackie just returned from performing in Antigua at the staging of the Guyanese play, ‘Woman in Law’.
She admits that she was surprised just how many Guyanese lived there and knew of her and her music. She says that she was overwhelmed by the response from the crowd, and looks forward to a similar welcome in the US, where she has also received reviews from Guyanese who all love her music.
‘Money’ is available on iTunes for purchase.
