SHAHID Afridi has vowed to fight for a Pakistan recall after the veteran all-rounder was omitted from a training camp ahead of the tour of England along with Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal.Afridi resigned as Twenty20 captain following Pakistan’s World Twenty20 failure, but opted against bringing his international career to an end.
However, the 36-year-old was not among the 35 players to be named for a training camp by new chief selector and his former team-mate Inzamam-ul-Haq yesterday
Afridi reacted to being dropped by tweeting: “Appreciate the approach by selection committee. Happy that youngsters are getting a chance!
“I am going to play county cricket this season and will try to prove my fitness & form and make a comeback.”
Opening batsman Shehzad has also been dropped despite his impressive domestic form for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Wicketkeeper batsman Akmal was also not included for a training camp in Kakul, which starts on May 14, while there was no place for former skipper Salman Butt as he strives for a recall after serving a ban for spot-fixing.
Pakistan will play four Tests against England as well as five one-day internationals and a one-off T20. (Omnisport)
