THE Marcus Bria Bisram Foundation has committed to assist the less fortunate in Region Six every year by donating the sum of $200M.According to Marcus Bisram — founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of the organization — the funding will provide assistance in the area of education, donation of medical supplies, funding for surgeries overseas, and funding for funerals.

Addressing a large gathering of residents of Number 70 Village Corentyne at a fun day and cricket match held at the Number 70 Community Centre Ground, he said: “The objective of today is not just for a fun day, it’s also to expose and bring awareness of the foundation. This foundation is surely for the underprivileged and persons who cannot afford the necessities of life. We will assist persons to pay for their CXC examinations, help persons who cannot pay for surgeries that cannot be done in Guyana…if there is someone who needs help and reaches out to us, we will assist,” he said.

The occasion was organised by the said foundation with the aim to bring awareness of its work.

Bisram said one of the long-term goals of the foundation is to build a home for victims of gender-based violence and children who are victims of abuse or in need of help.

The foundation was launched last month in the United States, but Bisram has been involved in humanitarian work in various parts of Guyana over the past seven years.

According to Bisram, the foundation was conceived after his many years of work and the need for him to have a transparent body to govern the funding of projects and to properly select and dispense funding to those in need.

The foundation, he said, is aimed at promoting equal opportunities and empowerment to under-privileged youths, senior citizens, and communities in need of assistance. The foundation is managed by a Board of Trustees that sets out rules, standards and protocols for the operation of the organization, as well as review and approve grant applications.

It also carries out its work in the United States, and the Caribbean.

Hundreds of residents from Number 70 and neighbouring communities came out to support the event, and food and drinks were provided for all present.
