Guyana secures CPL 2016 Semi-Finals and Final
THE Government of Guyana Tuesday announced its successful bid to host the semi-final and finals of this year’s Hero Caribbean Premier League.The CPL committee was asking for US$4.5 (G$932.4M) for the hosting of the Caribbean T20 showpiece with winners Guyana staving off challenges from Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago.
Though the CPL, up to late last evening was yet to confirm the news, Education Minister Dr Rupert Roopnarine confirmed yesterday that the government had secured the rights to host the event but was tight-lipped on further details.
What is known is that for hosting last year, Trinidad and Tobago amassed social benefits in the region of US$15.4M dollars according to a report provided by SMG Insight, an international market research company.
According to the Trinidad Guardian, the company estimated that the twin-island republic made significant economic and social benefits, which included the direct spending by CPL from hotel to local vendors, travel, media and advertising, a quoted figure of US$15.40M.
When broken down, direct spending by CPL resulted in only US$3.84M, accommodation and general expenditure was listed at US$5.63M, and value produced by the T&T Tourist Board branding at matches was put at US$5.93M.
