IN an effort to maintain a clean and green city, the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) is in the process of re-installing stronger and more secured waste receptacles along Regent Street, Georgetown.Head of the Solid Waste Department of the M&CC, Walter Narine, told the Guyana Chronicle that the waste receptacles will replace the plastic ones which were installed last year. He explained that of the 42 plastic bins, only 13 remain, since persons have been stealing them.
The new waste receptacles are said to be sturdier; are secured with concrete bases; and have metal frames, secured by locks, which will house mesh baskets. The M&CC plans to install receptacles from King Street to Charlotte Street, and according to Narine, it is hoped that the business community will sponsor the installation of others in the future.
The M&CC also plans to install waste bins along Waterloo, Camp and Carmichael streets.
