DEMERARA openers Ronaldo Renee and Raymond Perez wasted no time building a strong reply to Berbice first-innings 198 on a rain-hit second day of their second-round Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)-sponsored Hand-in-Hand Insurance Company Under-19 three-day cricket tournament yesterday, at the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) ground. After two sessions were completely washed out by rain and a damp outfield, Demerara reached 170 without loss, after only 41 overs were available in the day’s play.
Renee was unbeaten on 89, while Perez was has 64 not out.. Resuming on 38-0, neither batsman was unduly troubled by Berbice bowling on a slow pitch.
Both batsmen played with much comfort and in the process carried Demerara within sight of first-innings points.
Renee has so far hit eleven boundaries, while Perez, who is much more relaxed, has four boundaries to his credit.
Meanwhile, no play was possible in the other game between Essequibo and the Select Under-17 team at DCC.
Essequibo, replying to the Select Under-17 team’s first innings total of 244, were 72 without loss.
Play resumes today at 09:30hrs at both venues.
