The Guyana Police Force is mourning the death of 22 – year – old Akeem Hyles, who drowned following a boat accident Friday in the Amatuk Falls area, Potaro River.

The Guyana Chronicle understands that Hyles, who is a Police Special Constable 14536 of the Tactical Services Unit was among a team of Joint Services personnel and officials of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) in a boat in the Amatuk Falls areawhen the vessel capsized.

His body has not yet been recovered and a search is in progress. According to a police report, Special Constable Hyles had departed Ogle Airport Friday morning with other ranks who were dispatched to assist the GGMC officials in dealing with illegal mining that was being carried out in the Kaieteur National Park area.

The Guyana Police Force extended sincere condolences to the parents, relatives and friends of Hyles.
