A YOUNG mother was yesterday given a second chance to mend her ways after the person from whom she had allegedly stolen a cellular phone requested that the matter be discontinued against her.Vidmatie Persaud, a 19-year-old shopkeeper of Water Street, Agricola, was charged with stealing a Samsung Galaxy worth $120,000 from Andrew Younge on March 3, 2016 at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

However, before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan could proceed with the matter, Younge asked that the matter to be withdrawn. “She is the mother of a young child, and her family pleaded with me,” the victim informed the court.

The magistrate acknowledged the plaintiff’s request and reprimanded Persaud on the simple larceny charge. She bonded Persaud to 12 months of good behaviour. If she breaches the condition, Persaud will have to serve six months in jail.
