THOUGH it has not gained the attention of Cabinet, a proposal has been made for the Government of Guyana to own a fleet of aircraft. The proposal was put to the Government by the Finance Ministry Director of Project Cycle Management Division Tarachand Balgobin, who had explained that from a financial perspective it seems viable. He had pitched this idea when a team of Government Officials had appeared before the Budget Planning Team at the Finance Ministry for the 2016. Natural Resources Minister Raphael Trotman made this disclosure on Thursday when asked about the possibility of Government owning is own fleet of aircraft.

He said Balgobin had even undertaken to carry out an assessment that will determine whether it is indeed economically viable for the Government, given the high price tag attached to chartered flights for the Administration to execute its duties locally and internationally. Though he made it clear that this proposal has not been discussed at Cabinet, he did not rule out the possibility of it happening. “Nothing is before cabinet but noting at the same time is being ruled out.”
