Fisherman caught with two grams of cocaine

A FISHERMAN of Corentyne was on Thursday sentenced to three years’ imprisonment after he was charged with the possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.Fifty-year-old Roy Singh of 79 Village, Corentyne admitted to the charge the first time the case was called before city magistrate Faith Mc Gusty. It stated that on March 17, 2016 at Kitty, Georgetown, he had in his possession two grams of cocaine.

Police Prosecutor Sean Blackman, told the court that on the day in question the defendant was arrested and brought to the Kitty police station for an alleged attempt to commit a felony.

A search was carried out on his person and one transparent zip lock bag was found in his pants pocket. The bag contained four small pieces of hard white rock-like substance, suspected to be cocaine.
An investigation was carried out and he was later placed before the court for the present charge.

Singh was also fined $30,000 along with the sentence.
