GAIRY St Clair moved up to super welterweight (junior middleweight) but was denied success after losing to Australian Ryan Waters on March 25, 2011. St Clair lost by unanimous decision to Waters while vying for the World Boxing Association Pan African super welterweight title.
Stylish and at times cocky, St Clair started preparing for his trip to the world title arena in the USA, where he fought several tough opponents including Diego Corrales, Leonard Dorin and `Vicious’ Vivian Harris among others. He shifted camp to Australia in 2001.
While there, he defeated Argentine Cristian Sabastian Paz in April 2004. The fight was held at the State Sports Centre in Sydney and was one of six ring contests he had that year. St Clair won by unanimous decision and added the WBF International super featherweight title to his collection in the next fight.
St Clair was 31 years old in July 2006 when he defeated Cassius Baloyi to claim the International Boxing Federation and the International Boxing Organisation world titles and lost soon after to Amir Khan in a challenge for the Commonwealth lightweight title. He last fought in June 2013 and has 48 victories, 12 defeats and two draws.
