THE National Sports Commission (NSC) under its 50 Shades of Games banner will tomorrow host its first Cohesion Day of activities in honour of Guyana’s first female president Mrs Janet Jagan.
Sport Director Christopher Jones told Chronicle Sport that activities will be held in an attempt to bring together communities through sport, something the first female president and former First Lady strived for.
This weekend’s activities take place in Anna Regina Region Two and will see teams in various sports vie for top honours.
Jones said the various Neighbourhood Democratic Councils will be engaged in cricket, football, volleyball among other games, for a championship trophy which they will have to return for competition next year..
He said the aim is to develop a more unified Guyana.
Janet Jagan was born on October 20, 1920, in Chicago, Illinois. In the early 1970s, she co-founded the Union of Guyanese Journalists. In 1997, she became the country’s first female Prime Minister and President.
She died on March 28, 2009, in Georgetown, Guyana.
