A team from the Rose Hall Estate and Central Management from the Guyana Sugar Corporation Inc. (GuySuCo) met yesterday with a few cane harvesters, workers’ representatives along with the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers’ Union (GAWU) Field Secretary, to resolve the situation which resulted in a strike on Thursday.

On Thursday, approximately 735 of cane harvesters went on strike, seeking an explanation as to the reason for them not being offered wok on March 14 and 15, 2016.

A statement from GuySuCo noted that the meeting was very productive and the issues were resolved in an amicable manner. It was also noted that a commitment on the way forward was decided upon.

Workers are therefore expected to resume duties as per normal, from March 19, 2016. The release did not reveal the details on the commitment made.
