Guyanese nabbed in nightclub raid in Barbados

AUTHORITIES in Barbados conducted a raid — a joint operation between the Barbados Police and the Immigration Department — on an adult nightclub early last Saturday morning. According to the Barbados Nation, this raid was the first bust of its kind for the year, and approximately 44 non-nationals were carted off from Club Master Entertainment in Spring Garden, Black Rock, St Michael during the operation. The Nation quoted sources as saying that a number of the detainees were being held with a view to being deported. Police Public Relations Officer, Acting Assistant Superintendent David Welch, has confirmed that the raid occurred, and that about 29 foreign nationals, among them Guyanese, Jamaicans and Vincentians, were held. He, however, declined to say why the operation was carried out, or what the position was with the non-nationals, since the matter was still being investigated by the immigration authorities.
