East Coast man on bail for allegedly stealing gold

TWENTY-THREE-year-old Kendal Lewis of Nimrod Street, Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara, was on Wednesday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, charged with larceny and possession of narcotics.He pleaded not guilty to the charges, which alleged that on March 7, at Aranka Backdam in the Cuyuni-Mazaruni mining district, he stole seven pennyweights of raw gold, valued at $77,000, property of Samantha Marshal.
It is also alleged that, at the same time and location, he had in his possession two grams of cannabis.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones did not object to bail and Lewis was granted bail in the sum of $30,000. He will next appear before the Bartica Magistrate on March 30.
