A 22-YEAR-OLD Surinamese national was yesterday sentenced by Sparendaam magistrate Zameena Ali to three years’ jail after being found guilty of trafficking 526 grammes of cocaine.
Damario Cheslie was indicted for the offence which she committed on May 17, 2015 at the Ogle International Airport, East Coast Demerara.According to reports, about 14:10 hrs on the day in question, Cheslie was about to board a LIAT flight destined for Barbados when she was intercepted by security officials at the airport. Upon checking her, officials found a condom with cocaine in her vaginal cavity.
The young Surinamese was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital and was subjected to an x-ray scan which found that the woman had several foreign objects in her stomach. She later excreted 42 pellets containing the illegal substance.
