GTTA National Junior and Cadet Championship serves off today

THE BEST of Guyana’s young table tennis talent will be on show this afternoon when the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) serves off the National Junior and Cadet championship at the National Gymnasium.The Novices (boys and girls) category will start the action at 16:00hrs and would be followed by competition in the Under-13 division.

Beginning at 09:00hrs tomorrow, the Under-11, Under-15 and Under-18 Boys and Girls would be contested.
The Under-13 Boys category is expected to be loaded with action as it is stacked with talented players, the likes of Nyron Bissu, Isaiah Layne and Kaysan Ninvalle.
Colin Wong and Dhanesh Persaud are the top-seeded Boys Under-9 players while Ninvalle is expected to be confronted by Kristian Shahadeo and Wong in the battle for honours in the Boys Under-11.
Nevaeh Clarkson and Abigail Martin are expected to provide keen competition for each other in the Girls Under-13 category.
The championship will conclude on Sunday and is critical to achieving the following: crowning and naming of national champions in the respective categories into the annals of history of the sport.
In addition, the holding of the upcoming competition will foster the establishment of ranking system which would guide the national selection process.
It will also establish a benchmark to which players must aspire and improve the competitiveness of the sport domestically and allow for the promotion and marketing of players.
