Freed: Malvin Taylor

MALVIN Taylor on Thursday morning walked out of the High Court a free man after a 12-member jury was formally directed by Justice Jo-Ann Barlow to return a not-guilty verdict after the virtual complainant declined testifying against him.The 12-member jury was empanelled Thursday morning for the trial and it ended two hours after.

According to the indictment, Taylor was charged for two counts of attempt to commit murder.

On January 26, 2011, in the county of Demerara, he wounded Michelle Richards with intent to murder her and another woman Sharon Taylor. He had discharged a loaded firearm at Richards and Sharon Taylor with intent to murder them.

Ten witnesses were slated to testify, but only Sharon Taylor and Michelle Richards showed up to say they did not wish to give evidence against Malvin Taylor.

The state prosecutors were Shawnette Austin and Tamieka Clarke, the defence counsel were Savannah Barnwell and Kezia Williams.

The interdicted presidential guard Taylor, called “Mark,” allegedly attempted to kill his wife Sharon Taylor and her sister Michelle Edwards on the evening of January 26, 2011, during a quarrel.

The shooting occurred on Quamina Street, in proximity to Carmichael Street when Malvin Taylor dropped off his wife and her sister at a popular fast-food outlet.

He reportedly did not go far and returned minutes later. It was then he saw his wife and her sister in the company of a male individual.

This angered Taylor and he demanded that his wife get into the car and the woman complied. The group, including children, also entered the vehicle and was informed that Michelle Richards had received a text message and exited the car.

After a few minutes, Richards telephoned her sister via cellphone to ask her if they could return to pick her up. On arrival at the said location, Malvin spotted the man that was seen with the women earlier and he got into a rage and shot at the man who managed to escape.

It was then he shot both women and drove away with the children. He subsequently abandoned the getaway car in Kitty, Georgetown.
