INTERNATIONAL Boxing Federation’s Inter-Continental bantamweight champion, Guyana’s Elton `The Bully’ Dharry is brimming with confidence ahead of his 10-round ring date with Venezuela’s Felix Machado which is scheduled for tomorrow night at the Giftland Mall, Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.

The bout, which is the feature on the Guyana Boxing Board of Control’s (GBBC) `Hostile Territory’ card, will have as its main supporting fight, a 10-round flyweight contest between Guyana’s Dexter Marques (14 wins and two losses) and Venezuela’s Freddy Baleno.
Four other supporting bouts are carded for the night’s event which gets underway at 20:00hrs.
Dharry, who is based in the United States, arrived in Guyana on Sunday morning and immediately started his final preparation sessions under the guidance of former Guyana and Commonwealth champion Lennox Blackmoore at the Andrew `Six Head’ Lewis Boxing Gym, situated at Callender Street and Independence Boulevard.
Dharry, who would not be doing glove work leading up to his final two days of preparation, has chosen to do just shadow-boxing and said he has respect for his opponents as he always has for anyone he faces in the `square jungle’ but he is very confident of coming out victorious.
Dharry, who has won 19 of his 25 fights since becoming a professional, said he was offered a fight since December of last year and has been training since then. He said the names of opponents he was to have engaged have been changing but finally someone has accepted to face him tomorrow.
He said he was ecstatic when he got the news that Panama’s Israel Hidrego had accepted to fight him, but subsequently learnt that the Panamanian changed his mind and now he will be facing the Venezuelan Machado, a former IBF bantamweight champion.
Dharry, who lost five of his 25 bouts and drew one, however said he is still confident of winning, come tomorrow night.
The night’s card will get underway with a four-round bantamweight contest between two females, Mandessa Mosses and Ansilla Norville.
This will be followed by a six-round lightweight contest between Imran `The Magic’ Khan and Quincy Gomes then there will be a six-round welterweight rematch between Keshon Simon and Cassius Matthews. The last time they met was in December 2013 when Matthews won by a split decision.
Revlon Lake and Barbados’ Miguel Antoine will then engage each other in an eight-round welterweight contest.
