THE community of Kartabo in the Mazaruni River was thrown into a state of shock and sadness when a 22-year-old Gold Miner shot his fiancé to death yesterday and then turned the gun on himself. Dead are 19–year–old Glenda McCurdy and 22–year-old Terry Alexander, whose bodies were found approximately 20ft apart, according to Regional Chairman, Gordon Bradford. Police confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 15:00 hrs.
During a telephone interview with the Guyana Chronicle last evening, Bradford confirmed that a .22 pistol and spent shells were recovered at the crime scene. He said that the incident occurred through a road in the community, not far from the home of the victims.
Reports reaching this newspaper revealed that Alexander shot the woman twice to her chest and then shot himself in the head. The Guyana Chronicle understands that Alexander found out that his fiancé was seeing someone else, following which an argument erupted and subsequently the murder/suicide.
Their bodies are at the Bartica Hospital mortuary and police investigations are ongoing.
