THE University of Guyana (UG) Wolves, took the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Falcons to school and hammered them 64-5, when action in the GTT/Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) 15s Division-1 Rugby League continued at the National Park Rugby field on Sunday. Classes were called to session and obviously, the UG Wolves were tough on their students from the sound of the first whistle.
Godfrey Broomes, with four tries and one conversion along with Lancelot Adonis’ three tries and six conversions led the UG students’ assault on the lawmen.
Encouraged by their coach Troy Yhip on the sideline, the young Police unit played their hearts out, making some good tackles and tangible runs but lacked the finishing touch due to inexperience.
Nevertheless, it was captain Daniel De Abreu who muscled his way past UG defensive line to give his team five points though missing the conversion in the first half of the one-sided game.
The sudden downpour of rain could not stop the show, as UG Wolves extended their lead with scores from Rondel McArthur, Malcolm Rodgers and Osese McKenzie with one try each.
UG coach Larry Adonis was pleased with the result but stated that the real test for is when they face Yamaha Caribs in their next game on Sunday.
Up next for the GPF Falcons is a clash against an in-form Pepsi Hornets on Saturday.
