BUDGET AFTERMATH

THE Budget is still on everyone’s minds, and this is reflected in many a conversation on social media. Among the most popular topics were all things vehicle-related, including the restriction on importation of vehicles more than 8 years old; the reduction of fuel; and the restriction on importation of used tyres.

If you ask me, this seems like good news, but not all are happy about it, with some actually going so far as to say these changes will “only benefit the rich”. But think about it folks, it all balances out: with these restrictions also come the reduction of taxes on these things, so as to allow the “common man” access to what they believe only the “rich man” can have. It sounds more like they’re actually trying to place the “good life” within reach, as promised. Now, on pen and paper, it seems feasible, and of course we’ll have to wait until after the May 1 cut off to see how these things will translate; but for now, I suggest we actually trust that these good intentions will indeed give us the good life.

#teambencshop Soars
Could it be that #teambenschop actually has a fighting chance at the upcoming Local Government Elections? More and more, supporters have been flocking to Mark’s side as he prepares for the big day. In fact, what’s trending is one of his videos — it has racked up more than 12,000 views — featuring his team, with Mark pledging his readiness to “take over City Hall and manage the city”. I’m not surprised he’s getting all this attention; few can miss that orange, after all. But in all fairness, his PR team is on point, because he seems to be overshadowing the other contenders, who have little or no social media presence in comparison.

That’s their first mistake, as we saw what social media did for the General Elections. LGE parties should be a bit sharper as the big day draws near, but they still have some time. Let’s see how this unfolds.
