CLINTON Pestano’s all-round brilliance enabled Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets to comfortably crush Young Warriors by 170 runs in the final of the 12th annual Busta Champion of Champions cricket competition on Sunday at the Area ‘H’ ground.The talented Pestano contributed a quick-fire 42-ball 72 to ensure a commanding total of 274-7 for the hosts, and then effectively bowled his medium pace to return figures of 3-30 as the visitors were bowled out for 104 in 24.1 overs.
Pestano slammed six fours and four sixes at the latter part of the innings, but not before former national wicketkeeper Delbert Hicks had stroked a 48-ball 69, inclusive of ten fours and two sixes.
Rajiv Ivan and Jason Sinclair contributed 43 and 33 respectively to the total.
Sudesh Dhani and Seon Hetmyer both claimed 2-52 bowling for Young Warriors.
In reply, Young Warriors batsmen found scoring difficult, with only Wahied Edwards 41 offering any meaningful resistance.
Dhani Kevin Sinclair chipped in with 20 and 17 respectively. Eon Hooper supported Pestano with figures of 3-6, while Keon Sinclair and Shawn Pereira had two wickets apiece.
Pestano was voted best batsman and man-of-the-final, while Hooper won the best bowler award for the winners.
Dhani and Edwards won the best bowler and batsman prizes for the losing finalists.
The winning team received $100 000 and trophy while Young Warriors were the recipients of $50 000.
At the presentation ceremony, Managing Director of Guyana Beverage Company, Robert Selman, praised the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sport Club for a well organised tournament.
Selman also praised the club for their continued development of youths. RHTYSC Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster thanked the Busta Company for their continued development of the game in Berbice.
The club also paid tribute to Selman, who is retiring after 14 years of dedicated service with the Guyana Beverage Company.
Marketing Manager of Guyana Beverage Company, the sole producer of Busta products, Shameiza Yadram was also a part of the large crowd that witnessed the game.
