Essequibo woman files $20M lawsuit against Suddie Hospital doctor

A doctor attached to the Suddie Hospital, Essequibo Coast is facing a $20M lawsuit, after he is being blamed for several injuries a new born baby suffered.

Dr Mirtha Johnson is being sued by 29-year-old Parbattie Ramdat, the mother of baby Arveer Ashok Amarnauth, who was born on October 26, 2015 at the Suddie Public Hospital.

Reports indicate that the baby suffered a fractured shoulder after allegedly being pulled out by his shoulder during birth.

According to the writ seen by the Guyana Chronicle, Dr Johnson was the doctor supervising the delivery of the baby on the said day.

The mother is claiming damages in excess of $10M for negligence which resulted in the baby suffering multiple, physical and other injuries before, during and after delivery.

Ramdat is also suing for an additional $10M for personal injuries, pain and suffering of and to the baby. She is being represented by Attorney Anil Nandlall.
