THE Ministry of Natural Resources on Friday will convene a stakeholders’ forum at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre, Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown, during which it will unveil the “new order” within the sector, while giving miners the opportunity to air their views on some of the problems that have plagued the industry.    The forum targets small miners and will and map out appropriate solutions, the ministry said in a release. Being held under the theme: ‘Empowering Small Miners in the Green Economy’, the forum will also have the input of other critical players in the government and the mining industry.
Some of the key players will include the Guyana Geology & Mines Commission and the Guyana Police Force. Slated to begin at 08:00 hrs, the forum will see opening remarks by Minister of Natural Resources Raphael Trotman, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Minister within the Ministry of Natural Resources Simona Broomes.
During this period, miners would have the opportunity to raise concerns they face on a daily basis, following which the key outcomes will be discussed and a response from the panel on how the issues would be addressed.
President David Granger back in September 15th, 2015 during a speech at the Guyana Goldfields Inc. Aurora Gold Mines first gold pour had stated  that while mining has a long history in Guyana, it is traditionally poorly managed. He stressed that there is need to pay greater attention to strategic policies, long-term plans and enforcement of the law. Apart from giving the small miners the platform to air their problems and finding solutions, government will also inform miners of the new order within the mining sector and provide them with the knowledge to operate.
