ADELAIDE Strikers claimed a thrilling final-ball victory over Hobart Hurricanes to seal a home semi-final in the Big Bash League.

Jake Lehmann hit a six off the last ball to seal a six-wicket victory which ensured the Adelaide Strikers will be at home in the Big Bash League semi-finals and the Hobart Hurricanes are out.

Scores: Adelaide Strikers 4 for 146 (Ludeman 57*, Milenko 3-25) beat Hobart Hurricanes 143 (Paine 45, Neser 3-26) by six wickets.

Lehmann, son of Australia coach Darren, strode to the wicket in front of a sell-out crowd of 49 115 needing four to win off the final delivery of the match and duly struck Hurricanes debutant Simon Milenko over the ropes in a dramatic finale.

Victory for the Strikers earned them home advantage in the last four and they are top of the standings with one regular season game remaining, while the Hurricanes’ campaign is over.

Michael Neser took 3-26 and 21-year-old debutant Greg West claimed 2-24, while England leg-spinner Adil Rashid (2-16) starred yet again as the Strikers were bowled out for 143.

Tim Ludeman top-scored with 57 not out from 58 balls and watched on at the non-striker’s end as Lehmann finished off the job in style.

Neser struck in the third over to get rid of the out-of-sorts Kumar Sangakkara (3), promoted to open the batting, but captain Tim Paine looked set for a second successive half-century as he hit two sixes in a promising knock at the top of the order before being run-out for 45.

Young paceman West was not overawed by the occasion as he got rid of Ben Dunk (8) and Michael Hill (32), while in-form England leg-spinner Rashid bamboozled Jonathan Wells before trapping Dan Christian leg-before as the Hurricanes collapsed.

Ludeman held the Strikers innings together after Milenko, in for the injured Darren Sammy, removed Jono Dean (15) and the dangerous Travis Head (25) before Shaun Tait yorked skipper Brad Hodge (28).

The Strikers needed 10 to win off the final over and, although Milenko claimed his third wicket from the fourth ball, Lehmann denied him a dream debut. (Sportsmax.com)
