‘MUSIC Unlimited’, officially launched in November 2012, was founded by the Sobers brothers, Christian and Jeremy, who were both budding professional musicians at the time in guitar and piano respectively. Both had a passion for sharing their musical knowledge with others, and what started as music tutoring for friends and family, was soon officially established as a Music School in 2012.
‘Music Unlimited’ is a music institution that has blossomed to now offer courses in Music Theory, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Vocals and Drums, which are also available Online.
The school is located at 89 Brickdam, inside the building that houses the Berea Royal College, just opposite the Palms and right next door to ‘The Impeccable’.
Tutoring is available Mondays and Wednesdays from 16:00 to 20:00hrs, and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 16:00hrs. It can also be done in the privacy of one’s home, once you ask them to, in that they can come to you if you cannot get to them. They also enrol students from age five, which is the age of their youngest “playing” student presently, right up to 50 and over.
In addition to the school, ‘Music Unlimited’ retails music equipment and accessories, from sound systems to parts and electronics.
Its certified programmes are developed, utilising numerous music tutoring syllabi from established music institutes, with among trained staff of tutors being Akilla Whitney and Jeremy Sobers (Piano & Theory); Shawn English (Vocals); Daniel Prowell (Drums); and Anastacia Shako (Guitar).
Through modified exercises, theory bases, videos and games, as well as many JAM sessions, students are able to learn and retain principles faster. They have also performed internationally in such places as the Surinamese capital, Paramaribo, and represented Guyana in New York City for the One Billion Rising Event hosted in February 2015.

In November, they celebrated their third anniversary under the theme, “November to Remember”, while in December, they hosted two closing events for the year, namely: Final Jam (a huge jam session with over 50 musicians, singers and students), and a graduating ceremony for 12 vocal lab students and 40 music students.
They also had two each passes with distinction and merit at the recent ABRSM (Royal School of Music) from the November 2015 exam.
The Buzz sat down and got an exclusive interview with the two talented brothers behind the successes.

BUZZ: How old are you guys?
CHRISTIAN: I’m 22; I was born in 1993.
JEREMY: I’m 21, born one year after Christian in 1994.
BUZZ: Where did you guys grow up?
CHRISTIAN: We were born in Georgetown; moved around from Eccles to South to Central Georgetown to Diamond, where we currently live.
BUZZ: What schools did you guys attend?
JEREMY: I attended the New Guyana School, from Nursery to Secondary. I was an excellent student. After that, I attended School of the Nations sixth form college, and I am currently a student at the University of Guyana.

CHRISTIAN: I attended the New Guyana School, from Nursery to Secondary, and Queen’s and School of the Nations for Sixth Form. I’m currently studying music via the Royal School of Music in London.

BUZZ: What inspired you to get involved in music?

CHRISTIAN: My childhood was extremely music-oriented. My father (Sean Sobers) is a well-known singer, and I was always meeting his musician friends and all these other famous singers at a young age. This started the musical interest.

JEREMY: Just like Christian said, it was really from being around our dad and his friends from a young age.

BUZZ: When did you start playing music?

CHRISTIAN: I’m initially a self-taught musician. Later in my career, I began formal classes, and now I study via the Royal School of Music. I started playing guitar when I was 16, and was very terrible at first. Then I started researching material Online and in the library, and I gradually got better, to a point where I started a band with friends.

JEREMY: I’m also self-taught; never took formal classes. At the age of nine, I found a keyboard in my house and started playing; played around with four chords for a month, then I stopped. It was not until I was 15 that I started playing again seriously.

BUZZ: Do you guys have any hobbies?

JEREMY: I like to read, and I also enjoy writing poetry and dancing hip-hop. As a musician, I play four instruments: Piano, guitar, bass guitar and drums. My favourite is probably piano; I guess I have a greater connection with that instrument.

BUZZ: Now for the million-dollar question: Do you guys have girlfriends, and if ‘yes’, what are their names?

JEREMY: Ha! Yeah, I do. And she’s an amazing girl, and she keeps me grounded all the time. Her name’s Nikkita Chetram, and having her makes it easy to keep things balanced. You could just chill and take some time off from the stress of the music and producing and recording.

CHRISTIAN: Do I have to say? That really puts me on the spot, but… Yeah; I do. Her name is Keishann, and she is honestly the one person I have a sense of home with. In our industry, it means a lot to have that one person always on your side, and who can hold you down and keep you safe from the groupies… LOL!

BUZZ: What can Guyana expect from you in 2016?

CHRISTIAN: We’re gonna amaze Guyana with what we have in store for them… So let them watch out! And don’t sleep on us!
