THIS week’s Buzz Beauty is none other than the lovely Lisa Aniela Smith. This 20-year-old is a student of the University of Guyana, where she is studying tourism and plans on picking up journalism within the tourism sector upon graduating.
Lisa says she enjoys the simple pleasures of life such as sunsets, swimming, camping and fishing, along with any other outdoor activity she could possibly do.
She was born in Georgetown, but was raised by her family on the Essequibo Coast, which helped foster her love for the outdoors and countryside where she spends most of her holidays.
She said she can be often found at a bush cook, or in a canoe or even climbing trees when her friends come to visit. Her hobbies include painting and photography, having picked up the former at the age of 15. She attributes her patience and love for art and self-expression to the painting. Lisa’s mantra happens to be two-fold, with the first being, “Knowledge is the gift which never fades”, meaning that once you have knowledge of something it will always stay with you, and giving the gift of knowledge is the best gift one can receive. She showed she does have a sense of humour by adding, “Unless the person develops a serious case of amnesia.”
The second of the two is something she reminds herself of every day: “Beauty is superficial; education is forever”. For her, it means that beauty is fleeting, and can go at any moment, and that using it solely to get ahead in life leads you nowhere.
She would like to encourage young women like herself to grab as much education and knowledge as they can, since, when coupled with beauty, the world can be their oyster.
