Man re-arrested in Bath fiery death

POLICE investigating the robbery and burning to death of a Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice housewife on Sunday last, have re-arrested a man they had earlier released, as the investigations continued yesterday. The re-arrested man was said to have been a former lover of the daughter of the deceased Anita Baichan.

Five other persons, along with this man, are still in custody up to late yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile, relatives disclosed that Baichan will be laid to rest in the village’s cemetery today after a funeral service starting at 14:00hrs.

Baichan was burnt to death in her home after bandits set fire to it in the aftermath of a home invasion and robbery early Sunday morning last.

After the robbery and the setting of the house on fire, Baichan tried to escape from the building, but could not, because she was gagged and bound hand and feet with duct tape by two bandits during the course of the robbery.

Her son Moshin Khan, 23, was also gaged and duct taped and beaten by the bandits, in an ordeal which lasted for more than two and a half hours.

However, while he eventually managed to free himself with the house ablazed, he was unable to free his mother, as the building was by then fully engulfed in flames.
