attempting to board the ferry as a passenger.

The 40-year-old man, who was intercepted by a police detective, had the drugs, worth in excess of US$5,000, strapped around his upper body.

Based on information received, the man is believed to have been working for someone who had travelled to Suriname earlier that morning via the backtrack (illegal) route. The said person is believed to have trafficked cocaine to the neighbouring Dutch-speaking nation.

Reports also suggest that the discovery is but the proverbial tip of the iceberg, since there is an alleged existing cocaine trade involving Guyana, Suriname, Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Aruba.
