Guyanese trio aiming for consistency during ICC U-19 World Cup

THREE emerging West Indies cricketers, opening batsmen Shimron Hetmyer, all-rounder Keemo Paul and wicket-keeper batsman Tevin Imlach say consistency will be their main aim during International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 Cricket World Cup to be held in Bangladesh in January-February this year.The three Guyanese are among the 15-member squad announced by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) on Thursday.
Meanwhile, in exclusive interviews recently, the players say they are elated with their selection, adding that consistency will be their watchword during the tournament.

“It is a great feeling again to represent West Indies at a youth World Cup. And all I am looking for is to stay focused and live up to the expectations,” Hetmyer said.
He added “I want to use this tournament to develop my game; it’s a big step in my career, so I am looking forward to it.”
Hetymer has been named captain of the squad, and, is one of two players along with Alzarri Joseph, the pacer, to have First-class experience.
Hetmyer, who also featured in the 2014 edition of the tournament in the United Arab Emirates, made his first-class debut for Guyana in April 2014, and has played five matches since.
Meanwhile, Paul said he is looking forward to the tour. “I am thrilled to be named in the West Indies U-19 world cup team; I am really looking forward to the series and want to make Guyana and the region proud,” said Paul.
On the other hand, Imlack said his expectations of the tour are high, as his aim is to use it to take his game to the next level. “I’m really looking forward to it,” he said.
West Indies are placed in Group C alongside England, Fiji and Zimbabwe. They open their campaign on January 29 against Fiji in Chittagong.
Prior to the tournament, West Indies will play Bangladesh Under-19 in a three-match series as part of their preparation for the World Cup.
