Let us unite for the good of Guyana

Dear Editor,
I TRUST that each and every one of us had an enjoyable Christmas, especially since great effort has been put in place by this new Government in providing access to young children at Merriman Mall.

I would like to point out the fact that ‘united we stand and divided we fall’ is an indisputable fact. Therefore, it is our duty in 2016 to become more united, as, in just over six months, we can see with our own eyes and realise in personal experience the wisdom of unity.

The Municipal elections are coming up shortly, and I urge you to demonstrate as best as you could in voting the correct way. One ought to note very seriously that he who tries to ride two asses at the same time soon falls on his own.

May I explain that there are many ways to deal with, and express our disapproval of the behaviour of those close to us? One of the things I would urge is not to use violence, but show love instead. Love can easily be demonstrated by voting for unity. This will bring out the good that is in most of us, and in doing so, we will achieve unity in abundance. We, as a people, may not fully realise the interesting point at which Guyana is poised for major development.

God has blessed us with a solid oil find, which will be explored shortly. Many, many jobs will soon be available, and it would not be surprising to see many persons journeying from overseas in search of jobs in Guyana. We must therefore be prepared, mentally and physically, to meet this challenge. So, do you see how necessary it is for us to work together in unity?

The New Year’s message to everyone in Guyana is to give up hate and envy and work towards love and unity. This is what will take Guyana along the road to prosperity. So let all and sundry put aside silly and childish behaviour and work towards love and unity, and we all will have a happy and prosperous 2016.

One of the things I would like to see is that we should have a special place in the city for a bus park, so that the overcrowding next to Parliament and Stabroek Market could be solved. My suggesting is that the old train line along Lamaha Street is ideally suited to house all the buses, whether one is going to Berbice, Linden or Essequibo, as well as to various parts of the city. This, I believe, would assist in the better use of our roadways.
