Breaking the camel’s back

A MAN was shot dead by a fellow passenger after the former refused to close the window while it was raining. This story raved with popularity on social media, partially because of the disbelief in the frivolity surrounding the man’s death, but mostly because it was a reality check for many bus passengers. How many of us have had such a run-in where we’ve butted heads with others over the closing or opening of the bus window? As many stated during heated discussions about this occurrence, the issue speaks more about people’s breaking points and frustrations, and the fact that we never know when those things may result in someone snapping as a result of too much pressure. More importantly, many have pointed out that this story shows that it’s more than just the thieves who have guns — and many are unlicensed!

This is another issue facing the already laden-down new government. What will happen now? Let’s just add this to our waiting list of things to be rectified.

Then, in other news, another gun-related incident resulted in a phone vendor being shot on Boxing Night. This, like the former incident, also did not involve robbery, and suggested that yet another aggravated assailant decided to exact revenge on his victim. Maybe Ramjattan needs to revamp his amnesty programme because, clearly, some persons forgot to turn in their illegal arms.

CLEAN-UP KITTY
Oops, Kitty residents are enraged as there seems to be an overflow of garbage in their area. Reports are that garbage has not been collected since last Tuesday, resulting in a massive eyesore on the street corners. Now some have said that even the garbage collectors need a holiday too! But guess what public? Garbage never sleeps, nor should City Hall. Just as there are persons who must work on Christmas Day to keep the electricity going and the water running, so should there be mechanisms in place for garbage to be collected to ease the influx of wrapping paper and gift boxes that are sure to overflow the bins. Persons are wondering whether this is the case in other areas as well. I’m sure that if it is, #teambenschop will certainly point it out.
