OVER 50 children from the Amerindian community of Malali were pleasantly surprised Monday when Santa made an early stop with toys and other goodies, compliments of the President.
Doing the honours on behalf of President David Granger was Region 10 Chairman, Renis Morian who took a team in to the community to help with the distribution, and to tell both residents and children that he sent his love. Besides Morian, the distribution team comprised Regional Vice-Chairman Eldon Adolf, and several Regional Councillors. On hand to record the event were members of the media.
To start the ball rolling, the team entertained their guests with a few Christmas Carols and played some games with them before handing out the goodies according to age and gender.
Said Morian when the formalities were all over, “I trust that the toys will bring Christmas cheer to Malali; this is just a sample of what we will be doing for the community, as we have already distributed a light to be utilised for the development of sports here.”
In response, the village’s Toshao expressed his gratitude to the president and team of Santa’s helpers on behalf of the residents, saying he was happy to learn that the community has not been forgotten.
“We are very happy that the President remembered us, and that he sent these presents for the children, as we can all see the smiles on their faces,” the Toshao said.
Only recently, two youths from Malali were honoured for their contribution in sports at the Annual Youth Award held in Linden.
Malali is located approximately 50 miles up the Demerara River from Linden, and has an estimated population of some 250 residents.
