THE Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana extends to all Guyanese — at home and abroad — greetings of peace and joy for the holiday season. In a message to mark the occasion, the government said the enduring message of Christmas is one of hope and renewal.
“The birth of the Christ Child signalled a new dimension of human existence. We take this message as instructive on how we, as patriotic Guyanese, should approach, with renewed vigour and energy, the uplift of our nation.
“As we embark on our Golden Jubilee year, it is a time for even deeper reflection and renewal, and dedication to realising a better Guyana for all Guyanese. It is in the hope of a brighter future that we find the strength and courage to face the challenges that confront our nation and our people. We renew our commitment to work tirelessly for the realisation of the good life for all Guyanese. This is the season of giving and compassion, it is a season for families to gather together and enjoy the company of loved ones and good cheer.
“As we celebrate, let us spare a thought for our less fortunate brothers and sisters, and do what we can to make their season a little brighter. Whether it is a book or a toy for a child in need, or some food for someone for whom it is not a given, the government encourages all to act with humanity and compassion in the true spirit of the season, as we work together to right the wrongs and remove the ills in our society.
“The work has begun, and it requires the commitment of all for greater gains to be made. The government also implores the responsible consumption of food and beverages, driving and all other activities which are synonymous with the season. Peace, goodwill and happiness to all.”
