A MAN from the ‘Ancient County’ of Berbice was released on $10,000 bail by City Magistrate Annette Singh for making a false rape allegation against a police officer. Twenty-eight-year-old Stephan Philips of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice was arraigned on the charge, which alleges that on Thursday, October 22 at the Brickdam Police Station, he gave to Officer Marilyn Rodney false information, alleging that he had been raped by Police Constable Shawn Beharry.
The man denied that allegation.
Police Prosecutor Adonis Innis objected to bail based on the “seriousness and nature of the offence.” However, the objection was overruled.
The matter was put down for January 4, 2016.
