TERRENCE Alli was a 22-year-old on a mission when he collided with Mexican Primo Ramos on December 16, 1982. The quick-fisted and talented fighter from Mahaicony challenged the Mexican in Atlantic City, New Jersey and came away the winner via a second-round knockout.The bout was the second in the United States and fifth in North America for Alli who was a lightweight at the time. Alli and Ramos would meet again almost 10 years later. In May 1992 the two fought in France with the Guyanese again winning the contest, this time by points.
Alli won the NABF junior welterweight title in January 1991 and returned home in 1992 to fight Steve Larrimore. The fight was held at the world-famous Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground on June 14, 1992 and drew one of the largest crowds ever to witness a boxing event in Guyana.
Alli pleased his adoring local fans with a dazzling display of foot and hand speed that produced a fifth-round knockout of Larrimore, a former Commonwealth junior welterweight champion.
The three-time world title challenger again returned to Guyana in September 1996 to battle rising star Andrew `Six Head’ Lewis who won via a second-round KO.
