THE Georgetown Football Association (GFA) is expecting a large turnout of fans for the opening rounds of their 5th edition of the Banks Beer knockout football competition set to commence this evening at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.This evening’s fixtures will pit Western Tigers Football Club against Hope Football Club of Berbice from 18:00 hrs, after which a march past will take place from 20:00 hrs.
Game two of the evening will feature the Guyana Police Force and East Ruimveldt United battling it out and the winners will advance to the quarter-final round of the competition.
Admission this evening is $500 dollars with children under 14 being allowed free entry.
The tournament, which will see the winner taking home a handsome purse of 2 million dollars and a trophy, will be played at four venues across the country: Number 5 Village Berbice,the GFC ground,the Guyana Defence Force ground and the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary.
The runners- up will take home 1 million dollars and a trophy, while the third and fourth- placed team will cart off 500,000 and 250,000 respectively.
The 16- team tournament will feature four Berbice units in Rosginol United, Hope FC, New Amsterdam United and Cougars.
The Georgetown sides are Western Tigers, Sunburst Camptown, Northern Rangers, Blackwater FC, the Guyana Police Force, Eastville FC, Santos, Blackpearl, Beacon, Flamingo, Riddim Squad and Houston Stars.
The 5th edition of the tournament will allow three guest players, but will not accept any player that was on any of the recently concluded Stag Elite League team lists.
The final of the tournament will be played on New Year’s Day with the National Stadium at Providence being touted as the venue.
