THE Tourism Ministry in collaboration with entrepreneur Ray Rahaman and a number of large-scale businesses in Georgetown will give a huge Christmas treat to hundreds of children from the Houston/Agricola/Meadow Bank community at Rahaman’s Triangle, today.Banks DIH, DDL and Pritipaul Singh Investments have always contributed to the annual Christmas Tree light-up which was initiated in 2006 by the Rahaman family. The following year, the Tourism Department of the previous Ministry of Industry and Commerce began to contribute to the event and over time began co-ordinating it.
In recent years Giftland, China Trading and Candy Corner became major contributors of sweets, Santa hats, food and beverages.
This year the event, which heralds the Christmas season, is expected to be graced by President David Granger who is slated to do the honours of switching on the festive lights on the 30-foot tree.
Before that, the expected mammoth crowd will be entertained by local artistes including singers recorded on the recently launched Kross Kolor Christmas Album, saxophonist Roy Stewart, and the Classique Dancers.
