MOTOR Vessel Lady Northcote will be back in service by the end of the month, after spending the past two months in dry dock for repairs and upgrades.Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure Annette Ferguson, told reporters yesterday that work on the vessel which has been docked at the E.C. Vieira Dockyard since September, for much needed rehabilitation works, is 95 percent completed.
She explained that the vessel which is currently off the block and undergoing final works should be handed over early next week.
According to Minister Ferguson, the media would be invited for a tour of the vessel upon its completion, and before it again commences plying the Georgetown-Port Kaituma, Region 1 route.
Minister Ferguson also explained that following this rehabilitation effort, the engineer was able to assess the Lady Northcote and determine that additional works were needed. According to her, a report in this regard was actually submitted by the contractor that is to be sent to Cabinet for further deliberation and approval.
Meanwhile, the minister also reported that MV Kimbia would soon be docked to facilitate some level of emergency works. The ministry’s engineers are currently in the process of conducting assessments. (GINA)
