…Off-spinner Shane Shillingford bags six for 107

WINDWARD Islands Volcanoes had replied strongly on 127 for two to Guyana Jaguars first innings total of 362 at the end of day two of their West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Professional Cricket League (PCL) Regional tournament match at the Guyana National Stadium.

Volcanoes had reached 127 – 2 from 47 overs when bad light stopped play at 4:54pm with . Devon Smith and Kenny Lesporis unbeaten on 35 and 26, respectively.
Yesterday, not long into the second session, the Vocanoes opening batsmen , Tyrone Theophile and Miles Bascombe began their team’s chase but the latter was bowled by medium-pacer Chris Barnwell for 11.
The experienced Devon Smith joined Theophile in the middle and the two batsmen featured in a 49-run partnership before Theophile was trapped lbw by off-spinner Steven Jacobs four runs short of a half century with the score on 78.
Smith, Theophile and Lesporis grinded the Guyanese bowling attack in an effort to wear it down for most of the two sessions; probably keen on occupying the two days of play remaining.
Earlier in the day, Guyana resuming on 287 for four with the centurion Rajendra Chandrika unbeaten on 140 and Raymon Reifer on 11, the Guyana opening batsman added just six runs before his innings ended on 146 after occupying he crease for some seven hours and faced 333 deliveries which included 21 fours. His effort inspired Jags to amass 362 all out with scores from Vishual Singh (48), Shivnarine Chanderpaul (34), captain Leon Johnson (29) and Chris Barnwell (28).
Off-spinner Shane Shillingford was the pick of the lot for the Volcanoes bagging six for 107 from 42.4 overs.
Rain intervened after just 5.2 overs into the morning session and that lasted for some 40 minutes but time was readjusted to compensate for the loss of time.
When play resumed, Mervin Matthew produced a good delivery to have Chandrika trapped LBW, four runs short of another milestone.
Reifer was the next to fall, caught by wicket-keeper Sunil Ambris for 17 off Shillingford who claimed his fourth wicket. At 305-6, Barnwell was joined by Jags wicket-keeper Anthony Bramble..
Barnwell came off the mark with a boundaryr but Bramble failed to enter double figures when he was out, caught off pacer Kenroy Peters for 6.
Steven Jacobs (14) and Barnwell (28), steadied the ship at 342 for 7 at lunch. The Volcanoes captain Liam Sebastian got the wicket of Barnwell, lbw a few overs after the interval.
Shillingford continued to battle for his next wicket and was rewarded when Jacobs came forward and pushed the ball to forward short-leg. He then followed with the scalp of Beaton (05) to bring the Jags first innings to an end with Motie unbeaten on 4.
Today has a scheduled bowl off time of 9:30 hrs. (Kizan Brumell).
