POLICE on the West Coast of Berbice are looking for two men as they investigate an attempted robbery of a Bath Settlement family early Tuesday morning. This was after a woman was attacked by two bandits who entered her home at 06:00 hrs. According to Miriam Hoosain, she had just seen her husband off to work and was sitting in a hammock meditating. “He has to catch the truck at 05:30 hrs, so I would normally get up and cook, and when he left I had both doors open, but was backing the road because I did not want to be distracted and then two men came to the gate and ask if my husband at home.”
The mother of two took on one of the armed men who had entered her house. She said she was hit several times in the face and head. In relating the incident, Hoosain said that as soon as she was conscious she started to shout for help and received the full impact of a gun smashing into her face and was told to be quiet. “He threatened to shoot me. So I get up after I catch myself again and I hold on to him and fight him and overpowered him.”
According to Hoosain, she heard the man on the upper flat opening drawers and asking the children where their mother bedroom is. However, she was able to overpower the man who was wrestling with her but he escaped. “I run under the neighbour house and start to scream for thief and when they left them people start to come around.” According to her the bandits did not get to take anything from the house.
