THE Guyana Restaurant Week (GRW) is slated to be observed from November 6 to 15, and the theme for those observations is “Explore, Eat and Repeat”.Fifteen restaurants are set to participate in the event, which promises to offer something different from the usual.

The second launching of Restaurant Week is one of the signature events of Tourism Awareness Month. Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), Indranauth Haralsingh, and President of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG), Shaun McGrath, made this disclosure yesterday at the new home of the Tourism Ministry, Colgrain House on Camp Street, Georgetown. The GTA director has said the event promotes fine dining and culinary activities for locals and visitors, as delicious and affordable lunch and dinner options would be made available during the designated week.

“It is a culinary celebration of the best restaurants in Guyana. During this ten-day extravaganza, participating restaurants offer an exclusive menu at a significantly reduced price. Restaurant Week gives visitors and local foodies an opportunity to enjoy specialty prix fixe menus from skilled local chefs,” Haralsingh said.

He explained that the multi-course dining experience starts at $2,000 for lunch and $4,000 and/or $5,000 for dinner, including VAT and service charges, where applicable. Beverages are not included.

“All you have to do is dine at five different restaurants during Restaurant Week, and you will be entered into our competition, where you can win (the following): 1st (prize) — one return ticket to New York, from Dynamic Airlines; 2nd (prize) — one return ticket to Curacao, from Insel Airlines; 3rd (prize) — one overnight for two persons at Arrowpoint Resort, from Roraima Airlines.”

Haralsingh noted that persons can “download or collect a GRW passport sheet at any participating restaurant, and get it stamped at each restaurant you eat at. Once you have your 5th stamp, put it in the collection box at participating restaurants, and you will be entered into the draw. The drawing will take place on November 14.”

Persons can also visit www.guyanarestaurantweek.com where they can give their feedback pertaining to their experience at the various venues.

“Your feedback is important to us, so we can gauge the success of Guyana Restaurant Week. Please let us know how you enjoyed your dining experiences by completing our online survey. The results will be shared with the restaurant in question,” he added.

President of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG), Shaun McGrath, said the restaurants participating include: Angel Seafood Restaurant, at Kanuku Suites Hotel; Bottle Restaurant, at Cara Lodge Hotel; Caribbean Soul Restaurant, at the Grand Coastal Hotel; Coffee Bean Eatery, at Herdmanston Lodge; Ignite Bar and Grill, at Pegasus Hotel; New Thriving Restaurant; OMG; Oasis Café; Palm Court Restaurant; Princess Hotel; Silhouette Restaurant; Terra Mare, at the Guyana Marriot; Windjammers Hotel; and Xie Xie Restaurant.

Mc Grath said Restaurant Week was designed to appeal to the local market, and to attract people who feel certain restaurants are not for them.
