ZEEBURG and St John’s College registered massive victories in the West Demerara and Georgetown Zones of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) National Secondary Schools Cricket League (NSSCL), sponsored by Banks DIH Ltd’s Coco Cola and Rainforest Waters along with Digicel.
At the Zeeburg ground, the home team defeated Saraswati Vidya Niketan (SVN) Secondary by a massive 151 runs. SVN Secondary won the toss and invited Zeeburg Secondary to take first strike, a decision that backfired, as Zeeburg Secondary made prodigious use of the good batting conditions to rattle up 226/8 from their allotted 14 overs.
Kelvin Shewprasad top-scored with 56 which included five fours and two maximums while Ryan Fahein chipped in with 44, which included two fours and four massive sixes. Avishkar Ramgobin contributed a classy 33 and Ganesh Jitlall a stroke-filled unbeaten 40, which included four boundaries and two well-timed sixes. Bowling for SVN, Aditya Kakarnauth took 3-35.
In reply, SVN were blown away for just 75 runs as Ganesh Jitlall and Avinash Ramgobin returned figures of 3-14 runs and 2-17 respectively. Aditya Kakarnauth was the only SVN batsman to put up any resistance to the Zeeburg Secondary bowlers by recording a top score of 24.
In the Georgetown Zone, at Everest ground, Christopher Campbell bowled St John’s College to victory with a five-wicket haul, as St George’s High found batting difficult on a pitch that seemed to favour the bowlers track.
Batting first, St John’s College were bowled out for 122 in 22 overs, with the Douglas brothers Ooida Douglas and Raul Douglas being the main contributors with 40 and 26 respectively. Bowling for St George’s, Mario D’Aguiar took 4-42, Meshack Softleigh 3-17 and Ntini Permaul 2-27.
St George’s High in their reply, were skittled out for 82 as Christopher Campbell produced a superb performance with figures of 5-21, robbing St George’s of victory. Johan Blair supported with 3-19 off 4 overs. St John’s College won by 40 runs.
Tomorrow, Covent Garden take on Friendship at Thirst Park and St John’s meet Leonora Secondary at Zeeburg ground.
