ALL roads lead Sunday to the Umbrella Resort on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway for “Carnival on the Highway” featuring Macka Diamond.Macka Diamond is a Jamaican singer and song-writer. Born Charmaine Munroe in the Jamaican capital, Kingston and raised down south in Portmore, Macka Diamond was influenced by female artistes such as Mama Nancy, Lady Ann, Lady Junie and Lady G, who were big-name entertainers in their time.
With Lady Junie’s help, she got the chance to record “Don Girl”. After a string of singles, including collaborations with Captain Barkey and Wickerman, she would eventually change her name to Macka Diamond with her 2003 single, “Tek Con”, in protest of Vybz Kartel’s chauvinistic track, “Tek Buddy”.
She started to create some buzz back in 2012 with the release of the album, “Don’t Disturb Mi’, and has never looked back since.
The artiste is expected to perform live from 16:00h. Also adding some flavour to the carnival-like event will be a football competition, which will see Sparta Boss and Bent Street clashing head-on for a cash prize of $200,000. This match is sponsored by Blue Iguana Sports Bar; game kicks off at 13:00h.
There will also be a ‘Miss Good-looking’ contest starting from 15:00h. Most importantly, there will be a dance contest for ladies and ‘fat men’.
To add to the attraction, the event will also see dancers from Jamaica, Guyana and Brazil heating up the stage.
Music will be provided by Slingerz Family, DJ Killa Feelings out of Afrikan Vibz and Deejay Puffy. Admission to the event cost $2000. Gates open at 10:00h.
