THE Guyana Softball Cup 5 got off to a flying start yesterday morning at various venues in Georgetown. In the first of the open games at Everest Regal XI defeated Warriors by 4 runs.
Batting first, Regal XI made 211 for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs thanks to Richard Latiff, 83, Sachin Singh 39 not out while bowling for Wolf Warriors Mark Harold had 25-2 from 4 overs and Wazir Hussain 27-2 from 4 overs.
Leo Singh and Shalendra Ramnauth took one wicket each.
Wolf Warriors in reply made 207 for 8 in 20 overs compliments of Ravindra Ramnauth 63, Safraz Karim 38 and Azad Azeez 32.
Bowling for Regal XI, Khalid Hashim 30-2 from 4 overs, Richard Latiff 37-2 from 4 overs, Roohit Dutchin 46-2 from 4 overs.
At the same venue, Shakib XI beat Petama by 1 wicket.
Batting first, Petama made 192 all out in 19.3 overs thanks Z. Haniff 114 and Khelawan Tulkhan 19 while Shakib XI’s bowling attack N. Boodhoo had 27-3 from 4 overs and Marvin Bobb 46-3 from 4 overs.
Shakib XI in reply made 194 for 9 in 20 overs with Ameer Khan 58, Nandshyan Boodhoo 37 and Quazim Yusuf 28 leading the charge.
Bowling for Petama, Kelvin Orford had 14-4 from 4 overs and Lionel Persaud had 29-2 from 4 overs.
Other matches included the Karibee Strikers beating Zameer XI at Malteenoes by 5 wickets, Mercenaries thrashing Corriverton by 8 wickets at GCC and NYSCL All Stars thumping Hyde Park by 7 wickets at the same venue.
In the Masters category, over at the GNIC ground Invaders Masters beat NY President XI by 4 wickets.
Batting first, NY President XI Masters made 179 for 5 wickets in 20 overs thanks to Danny Mohanram 65 not out, Mark Bobb 37 and Rudy Rodrigues 24 while bowling for Invaders Masters Richie Bishop picked up 26-2 from 4 overs and a wicket apiece went to Devanand Madho, Gopaul Deen and Kassim Bacchus.
Invaders Masters in reply made 185 for 6 in 18.5 overs. Raj Rampersaud 34 not out and Linden Daniels 31 were the lead scorers while bowling for NY President XI Masters, Rickey Persaud had 25-2 from 4 overs and Mark Bobb 36-2 from 4 overs.
Savage Masters overcame Parika Defenders at Everest by 20 runs in another game while Industry Super Kings could not match the skills of Better Hope New York at Ogle and won by 7 wickets.
Also in the winners’ circle were Wellman as they won their game against SCI Miami at DCC by 6 wickets, GFSCC trounced Orlando Masters by 138 runs, Mahaicony All Stars whipped Tri-State Masters at Police ground by 4 wickets and Regal Masters won their clash against New York Legends by 7 wickets.
Albion Masters also registered a 9-wicket win over Brooklyn Queen Masters.
Matches continue today at the various venues.
