THE Education Department of the Moruca Sub-Region in Region 1 (Barima/Waini) held its annual award ceremony earlier this month when outstanding students and teachers were awarded in their various fields.Regional Education Officer Nigel Richards in his remarks, indicated that Santa Rosa had performed the best in the region at the National Grades 4 and 6 and CSEC examinations in 2015.
The region’s top Grade 6 pupil, Carlos Hernandez of Santa Rosa Primary, gained 512 marks, and was awarded a place at St. Stanislaus College. However, he has chosen to remain in the village, and attend Santa Rosa Secondary.
Santa Rosa Secondary, one of the three secondary schools in Region 1, has outperformed its counterparts at the recent Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination, with an average Grades 1 to 3 passes of 62 per cent, with three of its students securing 10 Grade Ones, including distinctions in English and Mathematics.
These awardees were Delon John, Trishell Torres, and Alicia Harris.
The school has also secured its highest ever passes in mathematics, and highest number of students matriculating in its history.
Commenting on the performance of the school, former Head teacher Marti De Souza, who is now seconded to the Department of Education in Georgetown, indicated that the success of the school came about as a result of careful planning, proper supervision and dedication on the part of all teachers. There is little surprise that the school has performed well since the statistics over the past five years has shown steady and consistent progress.
