Police raise alarm over forged firearm approvals

THE Guyana Police Force has issued an alert, informing citizens of the circulation of a number of forged firearm approvals.The police in a statement explained that in order to avoid being a victim of this scam, members of the public are advised that no money is required for the processing of firearm applications.
The force also noted that the procedure on the results of applications is via a mail through the post.
Only last Saturday the police reported that the Firearm Amnesty had netted 186 weapons, including 153 shotguns and one AK-47 assault rifle.
The amnesty ended the previous Wednesday. In a statement, the Police Force listed the small arms handed in as 13 pistols, 10 Air Rifles and nine revolvers.
The Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud had said once a gun has been linked to an offence, the police can and would re-open an investigation into the particular matter.
