DCB assists Upper Demerara with balls

THE DEMERARA Cricket Board (DCB) assisted Upper Demerara with cricket balls to compete in the East Bank Demerara Cricket Association T20 round-robin competition, which commenced earlier this month.The Upper Demerara Zone played their first round last Sunday where Bayrock won both matches against Police and Uprising.
The teams competing in this Zone are Arima, Waruni, Police, Uprising, Central Stars, and St Cuthbert’s Mission. Matches will be played every weekend. Police and St Cuthbert’s Mission will clash on Saturday, October 17, and Arima will take on Uprising on Sunday, October 18.
At a meeting with representatives of Upper Demerara, assistant secretary of DCB, Sudesh Persaud, said that he is pleased to see the increased interest shown in cricket in Upper Demerara. He commended the organisers for their efforts, adding that they have to identify talents and keep pushing for cricket to develop and spread in the area. Persaud assured the reps that DCB will continue to help them as the need arises.
President of Upper Demerara, Lancelot Easton, thanked DCB for its assistance and its continued support. He stated that more and more cricket is being played in the Upper Demerara area and he has high hopes that soon this area will produce national players.
